Few occasions are celebrated with as much pomp and splendor like New Year. Hong Kong

Nothing can compare to the beauty of Victoria Harbour as it is all lit up for New Year’s Eve. You can admire the beauty of fireworks from ground zero as you look on from the traditional junk or you could also climb your way up to the 118th floor of the Ritz-Carlton; the former holder of the title “Highest Bar in The World” and watch the proceedings from a vantage point. This is one New Year’s celebration that you have to attend at least once in your lifetime.

London

You will need to purchase a ticket to view the fireworks up close on the Thames; however, you can also view them at a farther distance from Vauxhall or Lambeth Bridge free of cost. If fireworks and crowds aren’t your things however, then the Kew Garden is a great place to be at to welcome in the New Year. The gardens are given a make-over for the holiday and are covered in sparkling fairy lights, the tree canopies are flooded with festive colors; it’s almost like being in Wonderland.

Edinburgh

Hogmanay – as the Scots like to refer to New Year’s Day – starts off on 30th of Dec with a loud, rambunctious, torch-lit parade through the streets which is followed up by about of fireworks. Then, on the eve of New Year, even more, people join in for the largest and loudest rendition of “Auld Lang Syne” shortly after which one of the rowdiest street New Year’s party occurs. New Year celebrations in Scotland are nights of revelry and unbridled fun.

Sydney

Sydney is warm during New Year’s; the perfect weather for hosting a barbeque with your family and friends if you aren’t in the mood to go out. However, if you do feel like a night of dancing and music then Sydney Harbour is the place to be. Watch what has been labeled the “World’s Biggest Fireworks Show”. Watch it from inside a boat, in one of the seaside restaurants or maybe even surrounded by nature on Cockatoo Island.

 

Goa

The picturesque locations, serene skies, and tranquil locations make Goa one of the best places to host New Year’s celebrations. Whether it is rave that goes on all night at the beach of Mojrim or dancing to some groovy beats, letting loose under the night sky and watching the beautiful sunrise at Club Cabana; all New Year party lovers need to experience a Goan celebration at least once to understand the hype behind Goan beach parties.

Rio De Janeiro

Join the multitudes that gather on Copacabana Beach to witness the beautiful fireworks that go on all night long. A tropical experience that will leave you with memories that last a lifetime. Interestingly enough, white is considered to be the traditional color of good luck in the New Year. Partiers come to the beach and set up their stuff by day and by night there are close to 3 million people on the beach; all eagerly waiting to bring in the New Year amidst much pomp and celebration.

Berlin

Germans sure know how to throw a mean New Year party. The big day sees the running of Berliner Silvesterlauf; an annual tradition wherein contestants get dressed up to jog up to distances of 15K. At the end of the marathon; each participant receives their jelly donut. At night, a huge party is thrown at Brandenburg Gate. Labeled “One of Europe’s Biggest Street Parties”, the New Year’s Eve party takes place on a 2km long stretch of road between Brandenburg Gate and Victory Column.

Koh Phangan

Southern Thailand is notorious for its full-moon parties and this one is no different. Koh Phangan is host to the most famous party of all time; with revelry and merrymaking that knows no bounds. The party tends to get especially rambunctious in Sunrise Beach at Had Rin. Parties tend to last until the following afternoon.

Orlando

Orlando’s chain of theme parks in Florida put on a New Year’s show with flair and extravagance. Disneyland is host to the Jingle Jungle parade while Epcot showcases a brilliant laser and light show and MGM Studios puts on an epic “Symphony of sense” that includes artificial snow falling from the sky against a backdrop of a thousand twinkling lights, angels and spinning carousels. The whole event is almost dreamlike.

New York

Last but certainly not least is the infamous New Year’s celebrations held in Times Square in New York. The tradition was started in 1904 to commemorate the opening of The New York Times headquarters. Ever since then thousands of people arrive at the city to experience a New Year’s Eve party unlike any other. As the sun starts to descend the famous New Year’s Eve Ball is raised up to the top of the Times Square’s flagpole and makes the famed drop just 60 seconds before midnight.

 

New Year’s is celebrated all around the world in a multitude of different ways; with each country and city adding their own little quirks and twists and creating their own version of New Year’s. If you aren’t a party person then you too can create your own little version of New Year’s and make it a family tradition. There is no right or wrong way to celebrate New Year’s; as long as you are surrounded by the people that love and care about you, the rest of your year is sure to be amazing.
